Routine Vaccinations
Certain vaccinations in the NHS are automatically provided by Primary Care. Some of these vaccinations are only given to those who meet the criteria required and therefore, eligible to receive it through their GP Practice.
Not everyone is eligible for every vaccine.
If your hospital specialist has recommended that you receive a vaccination because of your medical condition or treatment but you do not fall into the general eligibility cohort, you are not entitled to get this from your GP.
We understand it can be frustrating to be referred between services. However, this vaccination will have been recommended as part of your specialist care and is not a vaccination that general practice is commissioned to provide in these circumstances.
The hospital team that recommended the vaccination is responsible for advising how it will be provided and making the necessary arrangements.
If you have any questions about accessing the vaccination, please contact the hospital department that made the recommendation.
