Minutes of PPG meeting held on 28 February 2024
at The Vine Medical Centre
1 John Coope welcomed those attending who included Dr Hannah Davies
and Iona Sutherland from the Surgery. Apologies were received from Kate
Fairbrother, Helen Jeffrey, Jan Wesenlund and Michael Crow. John
mentioned that at meetings, in making points about service
issues, we should remember to make them non-person specific.
Personal complaints should be reported to the Practice Manager.
2 Minutes of 28 November meeting. These were rather in the form of brief
notes owing the lack of a secretary. But the minutes were accepted.
3 Actions from last meeting. There was discussion of how to bring out a new newsletter. It was agreed that John Coope would endeavour to produce some text and that Carla Wansy-Jackson.would see how it might be produced in an interesting and inclusive way as an online document.
4 Update on Triage. Iona reported that the new on-line system was working well and that it also allowed referral for physiotherapy, nursing, prescription queries etc. Those without internet could still telephone. Several PPG members who had used it agreed with this view, and that triage seemed to be speeding up requests and referrals.
5 Physiotherapy. Iona reported that there were now in place 2, and soon to be 3, physiotherapist advisers whose job was to assess rather than treat problems and connect the patient to hands-on treatment if needed.
6 Pharmacy Interface. This was working after a fashion but Iona said patients were often being referred back to the practice. Pharmacists need more training/experience for this work. They can now prescribe antibiotics.
An expert pharmacist will now be at the Practice on Monday mornings to
check medications of patients with complex needs. She will assist doctors and also see patients face to face.
7 Practice News. Dr Davies and Iona spoke to changes at the Practice, confirming that Dr Murray was now with them and that a new part-time GP would start in April. Vine Medical Centre now has around 7.500 patients and newcomers may apply to join but we were not actively seeking more
patients at present.
Iona mentioned that check-ups for over 40s would be initiated soon.
Possible roles for PPG members were also discussed: days when volunteers might help with eg vaccination days as in the past ; or be available to answer patients’ general questions . Ways could be sought to help some patients to feel less confused about recent changes and more in touch with their medical centre. Several members indicated that they would be willing to help in this way .
8 The date of next meeting would be in roughly three months time and would be notified to members.
